Through this initiative, L2H supports FMM sisters working directly with women living in vulnerable situations in and around Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
Rather than providing short-term assistance alone, these small community projects help women build lasting food security, generate modest incomes, and strengthen resilience for their families.
Examples include: Community chicken coops; Rabbit breeding; Vegetable gardens; Fruit tree planting; Small-scale food processing. Every project is selected and supervised locally by the FMM sisters, ensuring that support reaches women and families with the greatest needs.
Burkina Faso is facing one of the most challenging food security situations in West Africa. Although agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood for much of the population, food production is increasingly affected by: insecurity and armed conflict, climate change, irregular rainfall, droughts and floods, rising food prices, displacement of farming communities. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), 2.8 million people currently require food security and livelihood assistance, while approximately 2.5 million people are displaced or have returned after displacement. Conflict has severely disrupted agricultural livelihoods, particularly for farming families.
The World Bank also notes that, despite encouraging economic growth in 2024, more than 5.5 million people continue to live in poverty, and food price inflation remains a significant challenge for vulnerable households.
